Retro Racing: Updates

Introduction

When I first started on this platform, I deciding on small beginnings. I created a series of three retro minigames over the span of two weeks. Now, looking back, I decided to make some updates. Here I will update on what I did for my first ever update to an old game: Retro Racing.

Visuals

To start, the visuals were very basic. Many of the fonts were default google fonts, the colors were basic, and there were not many effects. The first and easiest change was the font. I had used a retro font for my GMTK Game: SCAL3R.

Next were the colors. I recently created a post (link) describing a color pallet I had found online. I decided on making that the color pallet for this game, and my other retro games I plan to remake in the future. The last change was very simple. I merely rotated the player toward the direction they moved. It was small, but changed a lot about the feel.

Mobile

For accessibility, I decided to make the games mobile-friendly. This was quite simple. I just attached the moving left and right varibles to be toggled when either that key was pressed, or that side of the screen was pressed. I also switched all the UI to be a click to continue and not the spacebar.

Sounds

Before, all you would here when playing these games was a silence. Now, I added a nice retro soundtrack, as well as sound effects for collecting coins and crashing. Here is a link to the music I used: (link). And here is the SFX pack I used: (link).
